In Mine to Have you get to meet Jayson Rivers up close and personal, who is Jailyn Rivers brother from Mine to Keep (book 1). Now when I was introduced to Jayson in book 1, I knew he was that 'something special" character. Jayson is a single father raising his one year old sometimey daughter Laiyah and is a detective on the gang unit on the New Haven police force. Someone is killing young boys in the area that he is familiar with and he is partner with rising star and recent transfer detective Mellina August from the Homicide Unit. They are instantly attracted to each other but they are trying to keep their feeling for each other at bay while trying to solve this case. The question is, can they?
This Romantic Suspense is a gem and is by far my favorite book of Ashley Nicole's. I know, I know; it seems like I am saying this each and every time she comes out with a book but this one, whew. Some authors have that special character in a series, that we as readers fall in love with and Jayson was that for me. Sometimes when that special character get their own book, sometimes you are disappointed because the book falls flat or does not live up to the hype. Not this one, Ashley delivers and I am so glad she gave us this one because it was soooo good. She brings chemistry, relatable characters and events, comic genius, suspense (because I thought I knew the killer and was so wrong) and a great storyline. The sub characters are hilarious; Mellina's cousin Junie is a riot. The scenes that she is in leave you laughing out loud and hold your stomach. Laiyah, will steal your heart and is funny too and she does even talk that well.
Just an awesome book!!! Usually, I have to read a book twice before I do a review but with this one I didn't have to do that because I want to make sure that the books that I read delivers on the qualities that I deem worthy of a five star rating. There was no need to do that with this one because it was five star read for me. Take a twirl Ms. Ashley and a bow because you really delivered... Bravo my dear Bravo!!!!! Go get this book and download the first book too (Mine to Keep).

This book will have you laughing so hard! The writing is so real it's as if you can see the characters in your minds eye and they're so real and human. I love this one and Mine to Keep with his younger brother Jaylen and his girlfriend Noelle. I read sections of the book out loud to my husband and he was laughing really hard too. I can't wait to read the next 2 book coming out in this series. My suggestion is to read everything Ms. AshleyNicole writes it's always an excellent read.
Love Jayson and Mellina's story. Jayson worked the gang unit and Mellina worked homicide. Someone is going around killing young men. Jayson and Mellina have been brought together to work the case. When those two get together the heat goes up. Wonderful love story with some mystery and suspense mixed in. Love Jayson's daughter Laiyah. Mellina's cousins Janie and Junie are hilarious they deserve their stories also. Please do Malcolm's story and maybe Giz the computer tech as well. I guess I can say I love all the secondary characters.
AshleyNicole continues to evolve and perfect her artistry in this newest offering. I am not a fan of suspense per se but when it is accompanied with humor, complex characters, and off the charts chemistry well then you have a winner. There was equal attention and justice given to each component of the story. I would have liked more closure with the case. Maybe something from the lieutenant or from police headquarters. Also, Mellina running off without saying anything to Jayson's family after she received "news" about him (that was disappointing) but definitely not enough to diminish the other great attributes of this book. Definitely a book to add to the list of favorites.
Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! If you never read an Ashley Nicole book, you need to. She brings reality, relatable issues, humor, and raw emotion to all of her work. In Mine to Have, she effortlessly fuses romance with mystery. The chemistry between Jaysen and Mellina could be felt throughout the story. I truly enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it.
Every time I see New / Pre-order / Coming soon ... whatever ... for an AshleyNichole book, it's an automatic 1-Click Buy !!!! That wonderful woman can WRITE ! This book was so damn good. I was highlighting & laughing my ass off through the whole book. Finally I said "self.. every damn page is yellow... Stop that now".
Mellina & Jayson were made for each other. She's a homocide detective & he's a detective in the gang unit. They were working together to catch a perp killing young boys. The chemistry between them was palpable. AshleyNichole's writing is so on point, that she doesn't just tell you, she makes you feel it. That is mastering your craft! I was right there with them... damn!!!!
This story has mystery, lots of lol humor, romance, great sex scenes and by far, some of the best side characters I've ever seen in a book. You will fall in love with Jayson's daughter Laiyah, Mellina's cousin Junie will have you grabbing your stomach cause it hurt so much from laughing. When Junie first met Jay, she was all up in his face ... she told him "you're like ... beautiful. Damn! Can you arrest me?" Mellina wanted to crawl under the table. Jay's friends were so cool too. His brother Jaylen from Mine to Keep was also present and accounted for. I loved that.
I gotta say, the comic relief in this story was so extraordinary. I found myself wondering how she thought of all that. There's a part in the book where Jayson tells Mellina that she manhandled him during sex. OMGoodness !! Thought I was gonna die laughing. I'm laughing now just writing about it. Their relationship just flowed so beautifully. Not saying there weren't any hiccups.. there were. It was just part of what made them and this book special.
